Protein Engineering

 

We use an amalgamation of approaches (rational design, directed evolution) to engineer proteins/enzymes with industrial utility. There are two strands in this area of research:

• Developing molecular biology tools to advance the field of protein engineering (e.g., seamless cloning for creating mutant library, novel random mutagenesis method to reduce mutational bias and to expand accessible sequence space). Tools we have developed include:

  • Sequence Saturation Mutagenesis (SeSaM);

  • Transversion-enriched Sequence Saturation Mutagenesis (SeSaM-Tv+);

  • QuickStep-Cloning;

• Developing computational tools to guide and expedite experimental design and data analyses (e.g., assessing genetic diversity). Tools we have developed include:

  • Mutagenesis Assistant Program (MAP);

  • OneClick;
